![]() ![]() ![]() That doesn't make it unethical if they decide that they need to stop future development. They get money to help them to continue to develop with the agreement that you get all future updates for free. Sometimes companies do make deals like that, but that's a really hard negotiation process.Įdit: Sure that bet that you made leans in the favor of Frontier. That would be a foolish and ludicrous deal for a company to make. There was no deal that Frontier made with you guaranteeing that the game would continue to be developed for X number of years. You paid that because you were enticed by the game, and made a personal bet that it would still be in development long enough to make that initial investment pay off. You didn't pay for the guarantee that the game will still be viable long enough for both of you to cash in. The developers bet is that the game will last long enough for them to honor your bet. Are there any other Pass owners here, or people interested in paying for another season's worth of game updates? How do you feel about the direction Elite is taking? Do you think more Horizons-tier content is coming in 2019? Thanks for reading. I am curious about what Frontier plans to add to their game that would make my purchase of the Lifetime Pass worth it. I just want to open this up for discussion because I haven't really seen it talked about. ![]() I don't want to come across as cheap or whiny in this post, I'm not interested in a refund. If I had just bought Horizons instead of the lifetime pass, I would be $105 in the hole, and have the exact same content and experience as I do now after spending $240. We are a third of the way through the game's "ten-year plan," and I've already paid more than twice than I needed to for the content that's here. It's only balance patches for existing game mechanics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this next year doesn't seem to contain any content that Frontier could feasibly charge for. We got the Horizons season delivered over the past two years, but that was sold for $45 to anyone who already owned Elite: Dangerous. I'm not sure what I got for my extra money. I'm excited to see what 3.0 and Beyond contains for Elite, especially for Exploration! For this year, Frontier promises to revisit many of the game's core mechanics, giving them sorely-needed balance passes or feature enhancements. Jumping ahead to 3305 2018, more than 3 years after Elite: Dangerous was released. Between the $60 launch price of the base game and the $180 Lifetime Pass I was investing into a game I believed in, despite the many game balance and design issues that others have already written essays about. At that point, I had spent $240 on Elite not counting cosmetics. The sky was the limit for where this game could go, and I was excited to latch on for the ride. Within only a year of release, we were moving from a top-notch space flight simulator to procedural-generated planet surfaces. In August 2015, after announcing the Horizons update coming that winter, Frontier re-released the Lifetime Expansion Pass for sale on the official website, which I purchased almost without hesitation. ![]() One of the backer tiers for the Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter project included lifetime access to all future game expansion updates throughout the game's "ten-year plan" of post-release development. I've mined, traded, smuggled, pirated, exploded, jumped and scanned everything this game has to offer and still love it! I'm double-Elite in Trading and Exploration and Deadly in Combat. I have some of my favorite gaming memories in this game, from exploring and trading, to pirating and PVP with my player group. I purchased E:D at launch and have sunk at least two thousand hours into it since (I'm afraid to check my statistics panel.). Though I wasn't a Kickstarter backer for the Elite: Dangerous project, I was a believer as soon as the game launched. Warning, capital-class wall of text detected. Post/comment not appearing?
